Work Experience

As part of being a responsible business we aim to offer opportunities and leave a positive legacy in the communities in which our projects take place.

Offering work experience placements is just one way of putting back into those communities and over the years we have arranged numerous site-based and office-based opportunities. It is a great way for potential future construction employees to get a taste of our industry. It is also a very useful way for us to see what these young people can offer in terms of enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn. Our Managers and Supervisors get a sense of personal satisfaction from these placements themselves, helping youngsters from all sorts of backgrounds and those less experienced to take their first step of a career in construction.

There are numerous examples of where these work experience placements have led to further employment opportunities, either with us or one of our valued supply chain partners. We also partner with a number of organisations running initiatives designed to place individuals into employment such as Construction Youth Trust and Jobs Growth Wales.

Work placement: Sam Gardner, undergraduate Degree, Building Surveying

Sam Gardner is a student at UWTSD keen to embark on a career in the construction industry.

He approached Jehu for work experience and in line with our support for new entrants into the industry, he was offered a mixed programme of site and office experience to develop his awareness of the roles and gain an understanding of a wide range of activity within the process of constructing a building.
