Project: Rumpoles, Cardiff
Client name: United Welsh Housing Association
Client overview: United Welsh is a housing association providing affordable properties to rent mainly in the Cardiff, Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent areas.
Brief description of the scheme: This was a JCT design and build project consisting of 49 residential units within one block.
Additional information: Jehu constructed with timber frame over five storeys which was sub-divided and serviced via three separate core areas with lifts and staircases.
The façade was a mixture of brick and render finish with a rotunda for the central section. The site was brownfield which used to contain a public house and cellar which were demolished and infilled to make way for the new structure.
The footprint of the new building extended to the boundary to each side abutting existing residential units which were kept occupied throughout the duration. The remainder of the site was used for car parking and soft landscaping.
