Client overview: NPT Homes is the second largest social housing provider in Wales and owns over 9000 properties in the Neath Port Talbot County Borough.
Brief description of the scheme: Jehu was contracted to build NPT Homes’ new headquarters in Baglan.
Additional information: The project was constructed via a design and build contract and drew extensively on Jehu’s utilise expertise stretching across a variety of renewable technologies.
The steel frame, three storey building had an extensive collection of sustainable features including ground source heat pumps, solar thermal and photovoltaic arrays, natural ventilation system and water systems boosted by grey water and rainwater harvesting systems.
Natural ventillation was serviced from a standalone Energy Centre which also housed the standby generator systems which was included primarily to serve the buildings extensive IT features.
The 22,000 ft2 project evolved from a shell only contract to a successfully completed turnkey scheme and also achieved its targeted BREEAM VERY GOOD rating. The project enabled the client to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable building.
