A project manager from Jehu, the Welsh independent property and construction company has scooped a prestigious gold at the 2018 Considerate Constructor Scheme (CCS) award.
Nyron Wood, Project Manager and his team picked up the award for their work on Library Court shelter complex in Rhydyfelin in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
CCS’s National Site Awards are one of the construction industry’s most distinguished accolades, recognising sites that have demonstrated the very highest level of consideration for the community, environment and workforce.
Nyron who has worked with Jehu for the past 20 years and who has recently been promoted to Project Manager said; “The entire Library Close team from our client to our site labour, should really take the credit for this tremendous honour. I’m privilege to play a small part in such a prestigious award and proud to pick up the award on their behalf.”
The £4.8m sheltered housing scheme, led by local housing association, Trivallis in partnership with Jehu Group and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, consists of 32 new apartments for the over 55s, a community library and substantial commercial space which is available for rent to local businesses and community groups.
The project saw Jehu and Trivallis exceed their requirements for sustainability in the timber frame construction and demonstrate high levels of consideration for the local community to ensure minimal disruption throughout.
Some of the activities that impressed the judges include:
- engagement with the local primary school including gardening and donation of a ‘bug hotel’
- frequent communications to keep residents informed
- Considerate parking and delivery arrangements
- Donations to a supermarket collection
- Support for the local nature reserve and activity centre
Martin Workman, Construction Director at Jehu commented: “This is a fabulous achievement and testament to the effort that Nyron, Vince, Sian and the team at Library Court put in. Their enthusiasm and commitment to integrating Jehu and our clients Trivallis, into the local neighbourhood, building an excellent community relationship and leaving a lasting legacy (all core areas of Considerate Constructors ethos), has received the recognition it deserves.
