Jehu Project Services has won a contract to build Merthyr Valley Homes’ new head office in Gellideg, Merthyr Tydfil.
With a strong track record amongst registered social landlords (RSLs), Jehu secured the contract, worth £3.2m, following a competitive tender.
The contract was awarded via a combination of qualitative and price criteria, including interviews with members of the Jehu team.
Keen to award the contract to a local contractor and committed to benefitting the local community in which they serve, Merthyr Valley Homes selected Jehu due to its commitment to supporting local recruitment, work placements, providing opportunities for disadvantages groups and community involvement projects.
Jehu has now started work on the 60 week project to build the 15,500 sq foot HQ, which will accommodate 113 staff with an allowance for 10% future expansion.
Merthyr Valley Homes is Wales’ first tenant and employee mutual housing association, established in 2009 as a result of tenants voting to transfer their homes to a new not-for-profit organisation.
Neil McCarthyr, commercial director at Jehu Project Services, said: “We were delighted to secure this contract to build Merthyr Valley Homes’ prestigious new headquarters.
“We recognise that community engagement is key to a successful project and we always work hard to ensure the local community is involved in and understands the construction process. We are committed to leaving a long term, positive legacy in the community long after we have left site and we’re keen to work with the local community in Merthyr to this effect.
“We hope this is the first of many contracts with Merthyr Valley Homes and look forward to working with them over the coming months.”
