Jehu Trainees First in Wales to be Awarded CIOB Construction Diploma

Chris Wood and Stephen Carr are two of the first students in Wales to obtain the CIOB Level 4 Diploma in Construction Site Management.

The CIOB Level 4 Diploma in Construction Site Management is designed for construction site managers working in the construction sector who are progressing into managing larger and more complex construction projects. The qualification develops the learner’s knowledge and skills to plan and programme projects, liaise with stakeholders and oversee large or complex construction projects safely and efficiently.

Chris Wood, 30, and Stephen Carr, 32, have both been working at local Welsh construction firm Jehu for over 10 years. Chris and Stephen started life at Jehu as site labourers, initially being inspired by their fathers, Nyron Wood and Peter Carr who have been part of Jehu for over 20 years.

Chris said: “Stephen and I both joined Jehu as a site labourer before moving on to becoming a Banksman Slinger and then a forklift operative. We also completed a NVQ Level 2 in External Wall Insulation, this has all been supported by Jehu.”

Stephen continued: “Just over 18 months ago Chris and I started our CIOB diploma with Bridgend College, it’s been a challenge but the support we’ve received from our colleagues and tutors has been fantastic.”

Construction Director Martin Workman commented; “Chris and Stephen have worked hard in both their academic and practical development and it’s great to see another successful step taken in their goal towards becoming Site Managers at Jehu.”

What’s the next for Chris and Stephen; “We’re looking forward to having our very own site to run, said Chris, we’ve had some fantastic mentors over the years such as Contracts Manager Chris Parks, his work ethic and passion have helped me get where I am today. My current mentor Glyn Rees, who I’ve been working with for the past year on a large Extra Care facility in Tondu has passed on his knowledge and wisdom of how to run a successful site and deal with difficult site issues.”

Finally, Stephen concluded; “We also owe much of our success to our father’s, their drive and passion has inspired us, we want to be part of this great industry and having a company like Jehu backing you then the opportunities are limitless.”
