Jehu Supports North 2 South 4 MND

Gareth Taylor, Quantity Surveyor for one of Wales’ largest independently owned construction companies, Jehu Group, is cycling 227 miles and climbing 14,500ft to raise money and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Gareth along with 39 other cyclists will be peddling from Llandudno to Bridgend whilst also climbing the three Highest Peaks in Wales – Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Penyfan. If this wasn’t enough, just to top things off the challenge must be completed in 4 days from; August 23rd – 27th.

Motor neurone disease (MND) describes a group of diseases that affect the nerves (motor neurones) in the brain and spinal cord that tell your muscles what to do. With MND, messages from these nerves gradually stop reaching the muscles, leading them to weaken, stiffen and waste.

MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe, some people also experience changes to their thinking and behaviour. MND is life-shortening and there is no cure!

The 40 team members are novice cyclist’s and mountain climbers, it will be a challenging and tough four days with the cycling elevation and the length of time in the saddle mixed in with scaling the heights of the 3 Welsh Peaks.

Gareth has been training hard over the last few months; completing 50-mile bike rides, weekly running club sessions and peak trekking.

Garth commented: “I’ve always been aware of the great charity work my friend and former rugby mate Justin Davies does for MND so when I saw this particular challenge I thought, count me in. The North to South bike ride and 3 peak challenge combined is always something that I’ve wanted to do. Our aim is to raise over £4,000 on this challenge, if we hit this target it will bring our total raised to £100,000 which is a remarkable sum of money for a worthy charity.”

The team will set off for the long journey to Llandudno in North Wales on Thursday 23rd August and are aiming to complete the challenge by the evening of Bank Holiday Monday 27th, finishing in Bridgend, South Wales.
