Jehu has announced a new charity partner for 2017 – Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
CALM is an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.
CALM offers support to men in the UK who are down or in crisis. It challenges a culture that prevents men seeking help when they need it and pushes for changes in policy and practice so that suicide is better prevented. It also supports those bereaved by suicide.
Adopting the new charity follows Jehu’s success of raising £8,000 in 2016 for Llamau – Wales’ leading homelessness charity.
In 2017, Jehu will fundraise for CALM by holding a band night, its annual Wales Property Triathlon, as well as other events throughout the year.
Jehu’s Managing Director, Simon Jehu, said: “Through our own company and work with our partners, such as subcontractors, architects and agents, we directly and indirectly employ hundreds of men across south Wales, so we thought this was a very appropriate charity for us to support in 2017.
“In 2015, 75% of all UK’s suicides were male so it is vital that the charity can raise awareness of its services so that people know where to access advice and support when they need it most.
“There is a cultural barrier preventing men from seeking help but if more men felt able to ask for and find help when they need it, hundreds of male suicides could be prevented. We look forward to working with the charity this year to help it with its aims.”
