As part of our commitment to supporting equality and diversity, Jehu supported the innovative ‘Women Building Wales’ Introduction to Construction course that has been delivered through a partnership group based at Neath Port Talbot College.
The partnership group consisting of Neath Port Talbot College, Chwarae Teg and Women in Construction has provided 15 women with an introduction to a traditionally male dominated industry through hands on skills, learning in college and experience of the industry through visits and other contact.
Jehu supported the project through the donation of hard hats and vests and the opportunity to visit two construction sites highlighting very different aspects of the housebuilding world.
Once on site, the group visited the sales office where the site manager and sales representative introduced them to the site and described their roles within the process.
Following this, they moved out onto site and viewed the interior of a plot, with both staff members spending time describing the construction process to the trainees who had plenty of questions.
A brief walk about the site followed to view the houses at earlier stages of development and also the environmental bat house.
The group was very engaged with the visit and obviously enjoyed the opportunity to view a real site up close and personal with the knowledge and support of the construction and sales teams.
