Following recommendations from our IT Manager, Simon Street, Jehu undertook its largest innovation in IT moving all of its staff to cloud technology.
This was a huge undertaking taking everyone from on premise services to a cloud hosted service – Office 365, bringing with it improved opportunities for communicating between sites and head office with video conferencing and instant messaging capabilities amongst the tools rolled out.
Prior to this, staff all had different variations of Office which caused problems with compatibility, different user faces etc. Rolling out Office 365 brought everyone to a high level of Office interface, allowing them to enjoy all of the subscription-based benefits.
Simon organised and supported the training of almost 100 staff in Office 365, which was the largest single training exercise that Jehu has ever undertaken. It was also a large investment. Phase two will see us implement Sharepoint across the company to improve our collaborative working.
On the project, which received funding from CITB, Simon said: “I’m really pleased and proud of how this project has gone. It was Jehu’s largest ever innovation in IT. The step process was like going from paper to computers. Change can often be worrying and daunting, particularly in construction where innovation in IT is rare. However, everyone has really embraced this initiative and there has been great take up.”
