B-Leaf Horticulture based in Bryngarw Country Park is a heart-warming initiative to help adults with disabilities to engage in operating the gardens and the nursery of the park.
The charity was left devastated in May when thousands of pounds worth of equipment was stolen. The B-leaf project, which supports people with disabilities, has been overwhelmed by the community’s response and has now received more than £1,000.
Jehu Group, leading Welsh property and construction company have kindly donated a new lawn mower to support the project. The company are currently building a development scheme on behalf of Linc Cymru Housing Association. The development which is situated on the former Archbishop McGrath School site in Ynysawdre consists of; an Extra Care facility with 15 units, 25 apartments and 19, 2 & 3 bed houses.
Glyn Rees, Jehu Site Manager commented: “As part of all our development schemes we implement a Responsible Business plan and register our site with to the Considerate Constructors Scheme. This plan outlines our commitments to our partners and the wider community in the form of engagement, training and employment. We are so pleased that we’ve been able to support the B-Leaf project, the work they do is amazing, they are truly valued in this community.”
B-Leaf Horticulture offers extensive training sessions that cover ground maintenance and horticulture. The dedicated staff of the park help the trainees to develop new skills at their own pace, lead an independent life and make new friends, whilst deep in the beauty of nature. The place remains open all year for buying samplings, flowers, plants, hanging baskets, summer pots and so much more.
